We are glad to offer one of the most interesting and challenging multi-day trekking tours in southern Kyrgyzstan. It includes traversing passes and gorges, hiking through valleys and glaciers, with overnight stays in base camps and villages. The route passes through the scenic mountain regions of the Pamir-Alay, offering stunning views of Lenin Peak (7134 m), glaciers, and lakes. The tour combines active exploration with cultural immersion, allowing for relaxation and the opportunity to learn about the traditions and customs of the Kyrgyz people.

day 1

Europe - Bishkek - Osh

Today, you will fly to the southern capital. The flight takes 30 minutes. In Osh, you will go for a walk and visit the most famous place Suleiman Mountain. It is situated in the city center and is considered a pilgrimage site for local Muslims. According to legend, the biblical prophet Solomon (Suleiman in the Quran) was buried at its foot.

Bishkek is located at an altitude of 750 m above sea level. The city tour will start with a visit to Victory Square, Oak Park, Central Ala-Too Square, the History Museum, the National Philharmonic, and other interesting sights. Afterward, we will have lunch at a national restaurant, where you will try authentic Kyrgyz food. We will then continue our city tour and visit the Asian Bazaar, which was originally opened during the Soviet era and reconstructed in 2001.

Osh City – Oytal Valley (2300 m)

After breakfast, our route passes through rocky hills with vast pastures. At an altitude of 1700 m, we will descend slightly to the picturesque Papansky Lake, a beautiful blue pearl among ocher-colored rocks and vibrant grasslands. After passing through Papan village, we will continue along a gravel road into a colorful gorge leading to Kozhokelen village, our starting point. From here, we will hike toward a sacred water spring and visit a limestone cave. After about 20 minutes, we will see massive ocher-colored stones with striking purple hues contrasting with the green meadows. We will set up our camp near a stream at an altitude of 2300 m.

day 3

Sacred Water Spring, Trek to Lake Sary Bel (3150m), Kokmoynok (2820m)

We will cross to the right side of the valley where the rocks are less dangerous, though this route takes a little more time. We will trek through a stunning landscape where the rocks are covered with anthracite and walk through pastures closer to the canyon. After a short trek, we will reach a wooded area at 3040m. The altitude will vary between 3000m and 3150m as we approach the foot of Sary Bel. A short descent will lead us into a beautiful alpine valley, the perfect place to set up our camp.

Trek Around Kok Moinok Valley (3240m) and North Valley Sary Mogol (2800m)

Today’s trek takes us through scenic vegetation toward Kok Moinok Pass. After the descent through farmland to the village of Kichi Alai, we will continue along the track for four kilometers in front of Sary-Mogol. The views of the green valley will be breathtaking. We will set up camp at 2800m near the river.

Trek to Sary-Mogol Base Camp (3900m)

We will ascend along the river, surrounded by sharp peaks and glaciers. Our camp will be set up at an elevation of 3700m-4000m, where we might encounter yaks.

Trek to Sary Mogol Pass (4270m), Camp at the Lake (4000m)

The path leads us past crushed slate and offers views of surrounding lakes and peaks over 5000m. Due to the steep descent, horses cannot pass, and another team will transport our load. This provides a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery.

Trek South Sary-Mogol Valley (3330m)

A full-day trek through the wild and beautiful Sary-Mogol Valley. The path winds through a deep gorge, featuring a stunning waterfall. Camp will be set up near a nomadic yurt at 3330m.

Trek to Kara Kabak (3640 m)

We reach the yurts, and from there, the route follows the slope, running parallel to the Pamir. The landscape is absolutely stunning, with vast, open spaces that seem almost limitless. The trail stays at an altitude of around 4,000 meters in the upper valley of Kara Kabak. Our camp is set in a beautiful valley next to the Kara Kabak River at 3,640 meters.

day 9

Trek to Kochkol (3900 m)

Today, we will follow the river for a few minutes along the mountains before crossing it. Afterward, we will face a very steep climb (35°) through tall grass and red scree to reach the lake, with its core height at 3,970 meters. We will then descend from the mountains before beginning a long alpine ascent to reach the middle of the lake at an altitude of 4,150 meters. The route will then pass through a green valley leading to the first lake.

day 10

Exploring Lake Kochkol (3900 m)

Today, we will spend the day resting or exploring the lake. There are many trails for hiking and climbing to the mountain peaks. The most suitable option for us is the peak north of the lake, which reaches a height of 4,800 meters. From its summit, you can see the entire Pamir mountain range. It will be a beautiful day to enjoy the variety of colors in the landscape. Overnight stay in the same camp.

day 11

Trek to Kashkasuu and climb to Chong Kol Suu (3230 m)

We will descend into the valley, enjoying views of the Pamir. Along the way, we may encounter yaks and wild horses near white yurts, where nomads are busy preparing fermented mare’s milk. We will have a picnic with a view of Lenin Peak. As we descend, the temperature will gradually rise. Below, transport will be waiting for us. We will then travel towards the Pamirs and set up camp in the Chong Kol Suu valley (3230 m), near the yurts of nomads.

Rest day

Today we have time to relax, ride to the heights to enjoy the exceptionally beautiful view, and feel the atmosphere of the nomadic people living in the mountains. We will visit neighboring yurts, learn about their way of life, and share food and experiences.

Kara Beshik Track (3590 m)

Following alpine valleys, our route will pass herds of horses and nomad yurts along the Pamir. The trail will be challenging. We will traverse the spectacular Ming Dzar canyon, and after enjoying magnificent views, we will camp at the foot of the Kara Beshik pastures.

day 14

Kaman Suu Trek (3840 m)

Today we have two routes. The first one goes through a 3500-meter-high valley, crosses the Col Kangur pass, and then the Kaman Suu River, where we will camp with a beautiful mountain view. The second route is more challenging, reaching approximately 4000 meters in elevation before descending to a 3800-meter peak offering splendid views of Lenin Peak. We will then cross the river and return to camp. This route is slightly shorter but has a significant elevation change and could take one to two hours longer. Overnight in a tent.

day 15

Kungei Tash Trek (3750 m)

Before we begin, we will see peaks covered in ochre. Weather and snow conditions permitting, we may ascend to 4400 meters for views of the mountaintops, as most of the program will be complete by this point. We will then descend into the Tash Kungei valley and set up camp at the foot of the glaciers at an elevation of 3700 meters.

day 16

Trek from Lenin Peak Base Camp (3600 m)

We descend into the Iskesu Valley to 3930 meters. From there, the trail leads to a river crossing. Next, we will pass by cozy yurts and pastures surrounded by glaciers. We may encounter marmots along the way. Finally, we ascend to a pass overlooking numerous lakes surrounding Lenin Peak base camp. Overnight at base camp.

day 17

Trek to Camp (4400 m)

 We retrace our route, ascending to the Putishestvennik Pass (4100 m) and then descending the steep slopes. After several passages and crossings, we return to camp for lunch. The afternoon is free to admire the glaciers. Our camp will be located at the foot of the northern wall of Lenin Peak, at an elevation of 2800 meters. For safety reasons, please bring all necessary clothing for the night. We will not have horses to carry sleeping bags; your overnight belongings must be in your backpack. Large bags can be left in the monitored tents at base camp.

Trek from Base Camp (3600 m) to Sary-Tash

We will spend the morning at base camp, observing the changing light on the slopes. In good weather, a short hike to a nearby peak (approximately 4700 meters) with glacier views is possible. We will return to base camp by the same route and spend the night in Sary-Tash.

Travel to Osh (180 km)

Today, enjoy one last opportunity to admire the views of the Pamir-Alai range before traveling to the Kaldyk Gorge, where road construction is still underway to the Gulcha area. We will arrive in Osh mid-day. After lunch, you will have free time to relax, shop at the local market, and visit the three-story Ethnographic Museum, a yurt-shaped building. This will give us a chance to learn more about Kyrgyz customs and nomadic life, which we have experienced throughout our trip.

Route

Additional Information

Trekking tours require physical strength and endurance. Participants should be prepared for long hikes, steep ascents, and high-altitude conditions. Prior hiking experience and good physical fitness are highly recommended to fully enjoy the adventure.

Weather in Kyrgyzstan The climate is continental, with cold winters and hot summers. The best time for trekking is from mid-June to late September, though weather conditions can be unpredictable.

Visa & Passport Requirements Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after your departure date.

Health & Vaccinations Recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, and typhoid. A rabies vaccine may be advised for long stays.

Currency & Payments The local currency is the Kyrgyz Som (KGS). ATMs and exchange offices are available in major cities. Banks, hotels, as a rule, accept Visa card, MasterCard. Tipping is customary for guides and drivers.

Accommodation & Logistics Accommodations range from hotels to yurts and camping. Participants are responsible for assembling and dismantling their tents.
