day 1

Arrival in Bishkek (800m) – Briefing and Welcome Dinner

Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, there will be a briefing and a welcome dinner with your mountain guide.

Flight to Osh and Drive to Oi-Tal, Trek to Kodzhokelen (2,350m)

Today, we fly to the southern capital of Osh (30-minute flight). Upon arrival, we take a scenic drive through a landscape of rocky hills and vast meadows. At 1,700m altitude, we make a short detour to the Papansky Lake, a deep blue gem surrounded by stunning fields and rock formations.

Beyond the village of Papan, a gravel road leads to the colorful canyon of Kodzhokelen, our starting point. From the village, we trek toward the sacred water spring and visit a limestone cave. After 40 minutes, we reach massive ochre-colored rocks covered with shades of purple, beautifully contrasting with the green meadows. We set up camp near a stream at 2,300m.

Sacred Water Spring, Trek to Lake Sary-Bel (3,150m), Kosh Moynok (2,820m)

We follow a trail along the right side of the valley, where the rocks are less hazardous, though this route takes a little longer. The scenery is breathtaking, with anthracite-covered rock formations and rolling pastures leading into the canyon.

After a short climb to a wooded area at 3,040m, the altitude fluctuates between 3,000m and 3,150m. Eventually, we reach the base of Sarybel, where a short descent leads us into a stunning alpine valley—an ideal spot to set up camp.

Trekking through the Kosh Moynok Valley (3,240m) to Sary Mogol (2,800m)

We hike through the scenic vegetation of Kosh Moynok Valley, heading toward the Kosh Moynok Pass. The descent leads us to the village of Kichi-Alai. From there, we continue four kilometers before reaching Sary-Mogol.

Along the way, we will have the chance to share tea with local nomads in their yurts and learn about their traditional lifestyle. We cross the river and set up camp at 2,800m.

Trek to Sary-Mogol Base Camp (3,900m)

We ascend along the river, trekking through rugged landscapes between sharp peaks and glaciers. Our camp will be set at approximately 3,900m, where we may encounter yaks.

Crossing the Sary Mogol Pass (4,270m) and Trek to the Sary Mogol Lakes (4,000m)

We start our trek early at 6:00 AM to cross the challenging Sary-Mogol Pass before the temperature rises. This pass has steep inclines of up to 80 degrees, requiring careful navigation over either snow or loose shale.

Our guides will prepare the route in advance to ensure safer passage. At the top, we are rewarded with breathtaking views of pristine lakes and peaks above 5,000m. Our camp is set up along the lake’s shore. In most cases, horses cannot traverse this steep descent, so porters will assist in carrying the gear.

Trekking through the Sary-Mogol Valley (3,330m)

Today, we will spend the entire day trekking through the stunning and wild landscape of the Sary-Mogol Valley. The trail leads through a deep gorge with a breathtaking waterfall. We will set up our camp near a nomadic yurt at an altitude of 3,330 meters above sea level.

Trek to Kara Kabak (3,640m)

We reach the nomadic yurts. From there, the route follows a path parallel to the Pamir along the slope. The landscape is breathtaking, and the vast views seem almost endless. The route continues at an altitude of about 4,000 meters in the upper Kara Kabak Valley. Today, our camp is set in a beautiful valley at the foot of Kara Kabak (3,640m).

day 9

Trek over Karakabak Peak (3,970m) to Kosh-Kol Valley (3,960m)

Today, we continue along the mountains. We cross a river and face a steep ascent (partly 65° and partly 35°) through tall grass and red scree to reach an altitude of 3,970m. From here, we can admire the vast rocky mountain panorama while enjoying tea prepared by our guides, forgetting the effort of the past three hours. The descent begins steeply for the first 30 minutes, followed by a beautiful trek through a vibrant flower-filled landscape until we reach our camp at 3,960m.

day 10

Through Kashka Suu Valley (3,379m) to the Kosh-Kol Lakes (3,940m)

Today’s route leads steadily downhill, offering magnificent views of the mountains. We continue our descent until we reach our camp at approximately 4,150m. After lunch and a short rest, we take a short hike to a nearby hill, from where we can admire two beautiful mountain lakes and the surrounding glacier world. After about 1.5 hours, we return to our camp.

day 11

Exploring the Kosh-Kol Lakes (3900 m) and Rest Day

Today is a rest day. However, we highly recommend exploring the beautiful Kosh-Kol Lakes. The hike to the lakes and back takes approximately 3 ½ hours. Ideally, we’ll ascend to a peak north of the first lake, reaching an altitude of 4200 meters to enjoy panoramic views of the entire Pamir mountain range. About 100 meters above the first lake are two more beautiful mountain lakes. Those who feel up to it can explore these as well. This is a wonderful day to discover a variety of colors and relax with stunning views of the Pamir Mountains. Overnight stay at the same camp.

Trek to Kashkasuu and Transfer to Tulpar Lake

Today we’ll transition from the Alay Valley to the Pamir Mountains region. We’ll hike for approximately 2-3 hours, always with views of the Pamir Mountains, towards Sary Mogol, until we reach our vehicle. Along the way, we’ll encounter yaks, yurts, numerous sheep, and nomads engaged in the production of fermented mare’s milk. After a 2-3 hour drive, we arrive at Tulpar Lake. We’ll disembark about 30 minutes before the yurt camp and walk the remaining distance to admire the many lakes nestled among the hills. We’ll spend the night in a yurt camp here.

day 13

Trekking to Lenin Peak Base Camp 2 (4400 m)

After breakfast, we set off towards Lenin Peak Base Camp 1. After about a 1-hour hike and crossing a river via a bridge, we reach Base Camp. From here, we continue hiking for another 6 hours to reach Base Camp 1. The first few hours are relatively moderate, with breathtaking mountain panoramas and the crossing of small rivers. Afterward, the terrain becomes quite steep until we reach the Putishestvennik Pass (4100 m). From here, we can admire the gigantic glacier world, as well as the brown, terracotta, greenish, and white snow-capped mountains. Then, we descend the steep slopes. After a few passages and crossings, we arrive at Base Camp 1 for lunch. The afternoon is free to admire the glaciers. Our camp will be at the foot of the north face of Lenin Peak. Important: Please bring and carry necessary items for tonight, as horses will not be available. Remaining luggage can be left in the yurts at Tulpar Lake.

Return to Tulpar Lake and Transfer to Sary Mogol Village

A morning stroll through the camp to observe the changing light on the slopes… In good weather, you can hike a lower peak of about 4700 meters with glacier views. We return to Tulpar Lake along the same route. After lunch, we’ll be picked up and driven to Sary Mogol to a guesthouse.

Journey to Osh and Return to Bishkek (180 km)

On the last leg of our journey, enjoy the views of the Pamir-Alay range during the drive to Osh. We arrive in Osh around midday. After a sightseeing tour, we’ll head to the airport in the evening for our flight back to Bishkek.

Trip to Song-Kul

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Song-Kul Lake and ascend to the Tuzashuu mountains, reaching an altitude of 3480 meters. The unique panorama at Song-Kul Lake is breathtaking. During a gentle descent, we’ll see many yurt camps around the lake. Overnight stay in a yurt camp.

day 17

Trip to Issyk-Kul (1600m) – 280km / 5 hours

In the morning, we’ll drive to Kochkor town. The route will take us through an amazing gorge, and we’ll cross the Kalmak-Ashuu pass (3448 meters) today. In Kochkor, we’ll spend some time with a local family who will demonstrate the process of producing national felt carpets. We’ll also visit a small craft museum. Afterward, we’ll drive to the heavenly Issyk-Kul Lake, the second-largest mountain lake in the world (1608 meters above sea level). You will have dinner and spend the night in a yurt camp.

day 18

Day hike in the Fairy Tale Valley (1700m) – 2-3 hours

Today, we’ll hike to the Skazka (Fairy Tale) Canyon. This canyon was named “Fairy Tale” because of its bizarre rock formations, sculpted by the wind over many years into fantastic shapes. Some formations in Skazka are named after their resemblance to well-known objects. We’ll have a picnic there. In the afternoon, on our way back, we’ll meet a local eagle hunter. They will demonstrate how eagle hunting is performed. There are still some people in the villages who continue this ancient hunting tradition. They train eagles and falcons from a young age and come to the mountains with them every winter for hunting. You’ll discover many interesting facts about this type of hunting and have the opportunity to take pictures, but always from a safe distance, as even tamed eagles can be dangerous. We’ll drive to our yurt camp on the lakeshore and enjoy the lake and the tranquility. Overnight stay in a yurt camp on the lakeshore.

Relaxation Day on the Beach at the Yurt Camp on Issyk-Kul

Today is at your leisure. The sandy beach at the yurt camp is breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning views of snow-capped peaks on one side and rocky red mountains on the other. After Lake Titicaca in South America, Issyk-Kul Lake, at 6236 sq km, is the second-largest mountain lake on Earth. It is located in the Issyk-Kul region, 182 km long, 60 km wide, 668 meters deep, and 1607 meters above sea level. The lake is also called the “Heart of the Tian Shan/Central Asia.” To the north of the lake lies the Kungey-Alatau mountain range, and to the south the Terskey-Alatau range. A total of 118 rivers flow into Issyk-Kul.

Drive to Bishkek 330km

 Today we’ll drive to Bishkek. This time, we’ll drive along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. This is a great opportunity to see the entire lake from all perspectives.  Overnight stay at the hotel (B/L).

Additional Information

Trekking tours require physical strength and endurance. Participants should be prepared for long hikes, steep ascents, and high-altitude conditions. Prior hiking experience and good physical fitness are highly recommended to fully enjoy the adventure.

Weather in Kyrgyzstan The climate is continental, with cold winters and hot summers. The best time for trekking is from mid-June to late September, though weather conditions can be unpredictable.

Visa & Passport Requirements Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months after your departure date.

Health & Vaccinations Recommended vaccinations: Hepatitis A, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, and typhoid. A rabies vaccine may be advised for long stays.

Currency & Payments The local currency is the Kyrgyz Som (KGS). ATMs and exchange offices are available in major cities. Banks, hotels, as a rule, accept Visa card, MasterCard. Tipping is customary for guides and drivers.
